Peters’ had summoned her to the yearbook room; she hoped Peter would see her and remember. Peter caught on immediately. “Anything?” he asked, with mock-meaningfulness. Chrissy’s pale face behind the windshield looked to Jane like that of a drowned person, and the illusion was reinforced when she made no gesture to acknowledge that she had seen and understood Jane. Jane looked at her for a moment longer, then climbed into the car and pulled the door shut.
